Five persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of 35-year-old businessman Vaibhav Gandhi in outer north Delhi’s Bawana industrial area. Police are also verifying a social media claim linking the crime to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Gandhi, a plastic granules manufacturer, was shot dead on February 9 outside his factory in Sector 4 of the DSIIDC Industrial Area. He was rushed to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Police later recovered around Rs1 crore in cash from his vehicle.
Investigations revealed that the accused had conspired to rob Gandhi after receiving information about the cash. The attackers allegedly tried to snatch his car keys and laptop bag before shooting him at close range and fleeing.
The alleged mastermind, Sanjay alias Tau (54), and informer Ravinder alias Ravi (42) were arrested from Sultanpuri. Two others, Sandeep alias Pujari (28) and Harish Kumar alias Sonu (45), were later apprehended. The fifth accused, Arun alias Pagal (37), was arrested after a brief encounter in which he sustained a bullet injury. A .32 bore pistol and cartridges were recovered from him.
Police said CCTV footage, technical surveillance and local intelligence played a key role in tracking down the suspects. Further investigation is underway to verify the alleged gang link and identify any additional conspirators.
