Gurugram: Three men have been arrested for the murder of a labourer, who was allegedly beaten to death following a drunken altercation over a stolen bicycle in Gurugram’s Sector 99, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased, Hira Kumar (35), hailed from Mohanpur village in Madhubani district, Bihar, and had been working with a private firm in Gurugram for the past 10 years. He lived in a slum near the G-99 Society in Sector 99.
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday night, when Hira Kumar was drinking with three other labourers—Sanjay Das (28), Prashnjeet (27), and Hamidul Rehman (30)—all originally from West Bengal and reportedly his co-workers.
During the drinking session, a dispute broke out between Kumar and Rehman over the alleged theft of Rehman’s bicycle. The argument escalated into a violent assault, during which all three accused reportedly beat Kumar and fled the scene as nearby residents gathered.
Kumar was rushed to a hospital by slum residents and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.
Following a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, a case of murder was registered at the Rajendra Park police station, and all three accused were subsequently arrested.
“During questioning, the accused admitted they assaulted Hira Kumar after a heated argument over the missing bicycle. We are continuing our investigation into the case,” said a Gurugram Police spokesperson.
Police are also checking for any previous disputes or history of conflict among the individuals involved. Further interrogation and forensic examination are underway.
