The Karnal police have arrested two individuals involved in a series of thefts targeting tubewell equipment in rural areas, cracking 15 cases in one breakthrough.
The accused have been identified as Sanjay, a resident of Bada Gaon village, and Amarjeet, from Mangapur village. They were apprehended on May 26 by the anti-burglary cell in the Kunjpura area, according to DSP Rajiv Kumar.
“The accused were specifically stealing tubewell wires and starters after doing reconnaissance during the day and committing thefts at night,” said DSP Kumar. He further revealed that both were drug addicts, using the money from the stolen goods to buy drugs.
After their arrest, Sanjay and Amarjeet were produced in court and remanded to three-day police custody. Following interrogation and recovery of evidence, they were sent to judicial custody on Friday.
The police have recovered Rs60,000 in cash, which was earned by selling the stolen items. The accused confessed to their involvement during questioning, helping investigators link them to multiple theft cases in the district.
