In a shocking incident, Hukkeri Police have arrested four individuals, including three women, in connection with a child trafficking case involving the sale of a minor boy for Rs4 lakh. The operation was led by District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhimashankar Guled, who confirmed the breakthrough while addressing the media on Monday.
The arrested include Sangeeta G. Kammar of Byatanal village in Hangal taluk and her second husband, Sadashiv Magadum, from Sultanpur in Belagavi district. After separating from her first husband, Sangeeta, allegedly under pressure from Sadashiv, sold her son to Dilshad, a resident of Belagavi.
Further investigations revealed that Anusuya Girimallappa Dodmani of Kesarolli village (Haliyal taluk) and Sangeeta Vishnu Savant from Kolhapur were also involved in facilitating the transaction.
The child has since been rescued and safely handed over to child welfare officers. DSP Guled stated that all four suspects are currently in custody and are being interrogated. A formal case has been registered under child trafficking laws, and further investigations are ongoing.
The case highlights the growing concern over human trafficking in rural parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra, prompting calls for tighter surveillance and public awareness.
