The Sangareddy police have arrested a three-member gang involved in a fraudulent land sale scheme that amassed around Rs15 crore over the past two decades. Operating in areas such as Ameenpur and Rameswaram Banda near Hyderabad, the gang used forged documents and fake identities to sell plots.
Superintendent of Police CH Rupesh stated that the gang was caught following an investigation triggered by a complaint received last month. The three suspects, previously detained for another plot-related case, were further interrogated, revealing their extensive involvement in the racket spanning over 25 years.
With land values in Ameenpur and Rameswaram Banda soaring into crores, the offenders specifically targeted abandoned plots. They fabricated ownership documents and created fake Aadhaar cards to sell demand drafts in their names. The SP noted that these properties were often transferred among two or three individuals before being sold off for illegal profit. He also criticized the negligence of officials at the sub-registrar’s office, which may have facilitated this ongoing fraud.
