Sanford Man Arrested for Aggravated Fentanyl Trafficking

John Leroy Gray faces drug trafficking charges following raid

SANFORD, Maine — John Leroy Gray, 44, of Sanford, was arrested on January 21, 2025, on charges of aggravated trafficking in fentanyl following a high-risk search warrant execution at a residence on York Street. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) and Sanford Police Department, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, seized significant quantities of fentanyl and suspected drug proceeds during the operation.

The investigation, prompted by citizen complaints and tips, began a month earlier. Surveillance and undercover operations confirmed illegal drug trafficking at the residence, which also involved possible firearms possession. On the morning of January 21, 2025, the Southern Maine Special Response Team tactically secured the home to ensure safety before executing the search warrant.

Arrested Individuals:

John Leroy Gray, 44 – Charged with two counts of Aggravated Trafficking in Fentanyl, Class A. Bail: $25,000 cash.
Patrick Bachelor, 48 – Arrested for failing to appear in court. Bail: $100.
Katie Boyatsis, 28 – Arrested for possession of schedule drugs and probation revocation. No bail.
Jessica Taylor, 40 – Arrested for failing to appear in court and other charges. Bail: $600.
Tyler Cann, 32 – Arrested on failure to appear warrant. Bail: To be set.
Marissa Tomarchio, 28 – Arrested on failure to appear warrant. Bail: $250.
Seized Evidence:

Approximately 40 grams of fentanyl.
$1,800 in suspected drug proceeds.
Additional evidence of drug trafficking.
Four realistic pellet-style handguns (no actual firearms found).
The operation involved the Sanford Police Department, FBI Safe Street Task Force, Federal DEA, and other agencies. Law enforcement encourages residents struggling with substance use disorder to reach out for support.
