A 38-year-old man, Sandeep Kumar Singh, was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs18.25 lakh from a chemical centre in Moti Nagar, West Delhi, where he had been employed for nearly 15 years.
The complaint, filed on October 3 by the centre’s owner, alleged that Singh was entrusted with delivering cash to the owner’s brother in Ashok Vihar. However, Singh never arrived at the destination and switched off his phone, sparking suspicion.
Delhi Police registered a case under Section 316 (criminal breach of trust) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Moti Nagar police station.
According to DCP (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar, searches were carried out at Singh’s native village in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, before he was traced and apprehended near a cinema hall in Harsh Vihar, Mandoli.
Upon interrogation, Singh revealed that he had hidden the stolen cash in a black bag at his residence. Police successfully recovered Rs17.65 lakh from the location. Further investigation is underway to determine how the remaining amount was used or hidden.
