In a coordinated anti-narcotics operation, Manipur Police with support from CRPF personnel arrested a suspected drug smuggler along National Highway 102 in Senapati District on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Sandeep Deswal, was apprehended near Mt Everest College, close to the T Khullen Naka Checkpost, following specific intelligence inputs. The operation led to the seizure of 17.34 kilograms of raw opium—locally known as Kani—valued at around Rs22,000 in the illicit market.

Authorities also confiscated a four-wheeler, a mobile phone with a SIM card, and some cash from Deswal’s possession. Officials confirmed that the drugs were being trafficked from T Khullen village with intentions to move them into neighboring Nagaland.

The accused has been handed over to the local police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
