MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) – A routine traffic stop led to a major drug and weapons arrest in the early morning hours of August 23, when Samuel David Salgado, 40, of Salinas, was taken into custody by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
According to deputies, Salgado was pulled over around 3:50 a.m. on Penzance Road near San Juan Grade Road in an unincorporated part of the county for a code violation.
Salgado, a convicted felon on active probation, was found to be in possession of more than 240 grams of methamphetamine, suspected psilocybin mushrooms, and marijuana, along with items consistent with drug sales and distribution. Deputies also discovered a loaded and concealed firearm in the vehicle.
Salgado was arrested without incident and booked into the Monterey County Jail on several felony charges, including:
Felon in possession of a firearm
Possession of controlled substances for sale while armed
Probation violation
The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case, and additional charges may follow.
