The Roanoke Police Department has charged a man in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred beneath the Tazewell Bridge last month.
Officers responded to the 300 block of Tazewell Avenue SE around 9 p.m. on January 20 after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Erick Telsaint suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said Telsaint had no fixed address.
Police quickly identified and located the suspect, 49-year-old Samuel Peitit Davis. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
According to early findings from investigators, Telsaint was walking under the bridge when he became involved in an argument with Davis. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation before ending in gunfire.
The investigation remains ongoing.
