On February 16, 2025, at approximately 9:03 p.m., the New York State Police responded to a domestic incident in the town of Addison, Steuben County, at a residence on Sprague Road. The caller, 33-year-old Samuel K. Byler, reported that a victim was refusing to leave his home.
Upon arrival, Troopers were granted permission to enter the residence, where they located the victim. During the investigation, it was revealed that earlier in the day, Byler had allegedly pointed a sawed-off shotgun at the victim, preventing them from leaving the premises.
Troopers later discovered an 18-inch barrel break-action shotgun behind the residence, which was subsequently recovered.
After further investigation, Byler was arrested and charged with:
Criminal Contempt in the 1st (E Felony)
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd (D Felony)
Menacing in the 2nd (A Misdemeanor)
Unlawful Imprisonment in the 2nd (A Misdemeanor)
Byler was processed at the SP Painted Post and transported to the Steuben County Jail for CAP arraignment.
