Sammy Mwaita Arrested in Multi-Million Shilling Land Fraud Case

Former MP faces multiple charges over suspicious city plot acquisitions

NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Baringo Central Member of Parliament, Sammy Silas Komen Mwaita, was arrested on August 3, 2025, in connection with a multi-million-shilling land fraud case, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed.

Mwaita was apprehended in Kilimani following directives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The arrest comes after detailed investigations into the acquisition of two high-value city plots under suspicious circumstances.

DCI detectives revealed that Mwaita faces multiple charges related to alleged fraudulent activities tied to these land transactions. Authorities noted that the former MP has been embroiled in various land disputes dating back to 2009.

As investigations continue, the DCI remains committed to uncovering the full extent of the fraud.
