ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — What began as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a significant drug and weapon bust for the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Community Response Team (CRT) pulled over a vehicle after the driver was observed failing to maintain his lane. As a deputy approached the vehicle, Sheriff Leroy Ravenell reported that a handgun was visible inside, prompting the deputy to call for backup.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a second handgun, ammunition, a scale, and 18 multi-colored packages of marijuana weighing over 154 grams.
Passenger 19-year-old Sammie Green was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Sheriff Ravenell praised the deputies’ attention to detail, stating, “This was just good observation and paying attention to what’s going on. The traffic stop was just a regular stop until the CRT team saw what was in the car.”
Meanwhile, the driver received citations for failure to maintain lane and driving without proof of insurance.
