A Dillon man who has been incarcerated for over four years awaiting trial for murder has been granted bond. Samir Khalil Dixon, 22, faces a charge of murder in the 2020 death of 21-year-old Chiffon Wells.
According to an arrest warrant, Dixon shot and killed Wells on October 19, 2020, in the Germantown Place area of Dillon County. Wells had been reported missing 24 hours before his body was found.
Dixon’s case had been delayed for several years, as the previous solicitor’s office had planned to try him in March 2024, but the new administration, which took office in January 2024, requested additional time to prepare for trial. Chief Administrative Judge Brian M. Gibbons granted a continuance for the case.
In light of the long wait for trial, Dixon was granted a $35,000 bond under strict conditions, including house arrest and GPS monitoring. Despite this, Dixon has not yet posted bail and remains in the Dillon County Detention Center.
Wells’ mother, Dee Dee Merritt, expressed her belief that Dixon should not have been granted bond, citing the circumstances of her son’s death. She continues to advocate for justice and asks the public to come forward with any information to support the case.
Dixon is scheduled to stand trial on November 10, 2024, and the prosecution intends to be fully prepared by that date.
