In a chilling crime reminiscent of a thriller movie, Pune police arrested Samir Punjabrao Jadhav, 42, for allegedly murdering his wife Anjali Samir Jadhav and attempting to cover up the crime by filing a false missing person report.
Authorities revealed that Samir was influenced by the Ajay Devgn-starrer film Drishyam, which he reportedly watched three to four times while planning the crime. Motivated by suspicions of his wife’s extramarital affair, Samir meticulously plotted the murder.
On October 28, he reported Anjali missing at Warje Police Station, but police soon grew suspicious of his repeated visits and inconsistent statements. Investigators found that Samir’s behavior contradicted the narrative he had presented, prompting further interrogation.
Under pressure, Samir confessed to strangling Anjali to death on October 26. He had rented a warehouse for Rs 18,000 a month, prepped a furnace, and stockpiled wood and petrol. After killing her at Mariyai Ghat during a drive, he burned her body in the furnace and later disposed of the charred remains in a river.
Police registered cases under sections BNS 103 (murder) and BNS 238 (destruction of evidence), among others. The investigation highlights the extreme lengths the accused went to in attempting to mimic a cinematic plot to conceal his crime.
