A New Yorker with previous theft convictions was arrested for shoplifting at the Target store located in Rolling Acres Plaza, The Villages.
According to the Lady Lake Police Department report, 51-year-old Samantha Davido of Oviedo was observed by asset protection staff at around 5:30 p.m. Friday walking around the store without merchandise. She then removed tags from slippers in the shoe department, placed a box of toys in her cart, and picked up a travel backpack.
Davido proceeded to the checkout, placing only some items on the belt, then attempted to return the slippers at customer service. She ultimately surrendered the shoes, but left the store with $266.86 worth of unpaid items. Asset protection stopped her before she exited.
Police later discovered Davido had two previous shoplifting convictions in New Jersey from 2006 and 2011.
She was arrested and charged with petit theft (third conviction) and booked into Lake County Jail. Davido was released after posting a $2,500 bond.
