A 25-year-old man, Sama Munda, was arrested on Wednesday in Sundargarh district for allegedly killing his uncle over a land dispute. Sama is a resident of Rangamatia village, while his uncle, Nanda Munda, was 56 years old.
Police said Sama had a strained relationship with his uncle, claiming he was not receiving his share of ancestral land. A few days prior to the incident, the two had quarrelled over the matter.
On Monday night, while Nanda was asleep, Sama allegedly used a grinding stone pestle to strike his uncle’s head repeatedly, resulting in his death.
Upon receiving information, Lahunipada police reached the village and shifted the body to Bonai Sub-Divisional Hospital. After the post-mortem on Tuesday, the body was handed over to the family. Police detained and interrogated Sama, registered a murder case, and launched an investigation.
Sama was formally arrested on Wednesday, and the grinding pestle used in the crime was seized.
“We are further investigating the case,” said S. Jhankar, Inspector In-Charge, Lahunipada Police Station.
