The crime occurred between the night of March 3 and the early hours of March 4 at her residence in Free Colony, Chharanagar, near Shankar Bhagwan Temple. Police said the accused broke into the house with the intention to steal, tied the victim’s hands and feet, killed her, and fled with valuables.

Around Rs2.5 lakh in cash and gold jewelry, including a chain and earrings weighing approximately one-and-a-half tolas, were stolen, officials said. The victim’s relative, Hitendrabhai Rasikbhai Bajrang, a lawyer, filed a complaint under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including sections on robbery and murder.

Senior officers of the Ahmedabad City Police formed multiple teams to investigate. Analysis of CCTV footage and mobile phone data helped identify suspects with links to Uttar Pradesh. Two teams were dispatched to track their movements.

The first accused, Salman, alias Lalla, 26, originally from Agra, Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, was apprehended and formally arrested in Ahmedabad on March 11.

The second accused, Sonusingh Atishsingh Sikarwar, 20, originally from Fatehabad district, Uttar Pradesh and presently residing in Chharanagar, Kubernagar, was detained later the same day near Ranasan Bridge, Naroda jurisdiction.

Police officials noted that Salman has a prior criminal record in Uttar Pradesh, including cases of murder, attempted murder, theft, and Arms Act violations registered at Itmad-ud-Daulah police station, Agra. A yellow metal earring believed to be part of the stolen jewelry was recovered from Salman, while Rs4,522 in cash was recovered from Sonusingh.

Investigations are ongoing to recover remaining stolen property and determine whether other accomplices were involved.
