SOUTH SALT LAKE — A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that took place late Saturday night in South Salt Lake.
Police responded to a report of a gunshot victim near 2531 S. 400 East around 11:40 p.m. Saturday. The victim, an 18-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators have identified Salman Ahmed as a person of interest in the ongoing homicide case, according to a police booking statement. He was taken into custody early Sunday morning for questioning.
“(Ahmed) is a person of interest in a homicide investigation that occurred on [Saturday] at 11:40 p.m.,” South Salt Lake Police Detective Ryan Alvarez confirmed.
Court records reveal Ahmed has a history of serious criminal offenses. He was previously convicted on November 24, 2024, for discharging a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and on September 19, 2024, for selling cocaine.
The identity of the deceased victim has not yet been publicly released. Police have not confirmed whether Ahmed has been officially charged in this case as the investigation remains active.
