The Nuh Police have successfully apprehended Salim alias Salli, a cyber fraudster involved in a clever scam targeting schools across Karnataka and Hyderabad. Salim was caught red-handed, with a mobile phone and a fake SIM card in his possession.
According to Krishan Kumar, spokesperson for Nuh Police, Salim used the internet to find contact details of school accountants, then sent them fake payment confirmation messages claiming he had paid school fees. Shortly after, he contacted them again requesting a refund, stating the amount was transferred by mistake.
Several schools fell for the ploy and processed refunds, unaware that the initial payments were never real. The fraud came to light following a complaint filed on the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) portal, prompting swift action by the police.
Authorities are continuing to investigate, and Salim remains in custody as further questioning continues.
