In a major law enforcement breakthrough, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD), operating from Basistha Police Station, apprehended Salim (25), the prime suspect in a series of ATM thefts, from Haryana.
Police described Salim as a veteran ATM thief who specializes in using gas cutters to break into cash machines. He has reportedly been involved in multiple ATM heists across different states.
Salim had been on the run for several weeks following an attempted ATM robbery in Guwahati. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Basistha PS team tracked him to Haryana and executed a swift operation, resulting in his arrest.
An Assam Police spokesperson commented, “Salim’s arrest is a significant success, as he was the prime accused with a history of using advanced techniques to commit ATM thefts.”
Salim was brought to Guwahati on Tuesday and is currently in custody at Basistha Police Station, where police are conducting further interrogation to uncover details of his criminal network.
