The Purighat police have arrested 35-year-old Satyanarayan Sahoo, a salesman working at Suraj Jewellers, for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth approximately Rs50 lakh from the jewelry shop where he worked.
Sahoo, a resident of Dagarapada, was found in possession of 561.6 grams of stolen gold during a raid at his home. He had reportedly been stealing the jewelry piece by piece over the course of several years.
The incident came to light last month when the shop owner, Sukumar Boital, noticed gold ornaments mysteriously disappearing from the Nayasarak store. After reviewing CCTV footage, Boital discovered that Sahoo had been pocketing the jewelry on multiple occasions. Boital then lodged a complaint with the police.
Following the complaint, the police raided Sahoo’s residence and seized the stolen gold ornaments, including 15 different types of jewelry. The police arrested him for the theft, and further investigation is underway. DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo stated that the accused had been stealing the gold over an extended period, and efforts are being made to recover any additional stolen items.
