Salem Police Arrest Six-Member Gang Involved in Newborn Sales

Finance Employee Linked to Newborn Trafficking Ring in Salem and Erode

by Ananya Mehta

Salem City Police arrested a six-member gang involved in the illegal sale of newborns across Salem and Erode districts on Sunday night. The investigation took a critical turn when R. Mohanraj (43), an employee at a finance company from Karthi Nagar, Narasothipatti, Salem, was arrested earlier on Friday following allegations of misappropriating company funds.

During the probe, police seized Mohanraj’s mobile phone and discovered photos of newborn infants, which raised suspicion. Further investigations revealed his involvement, alongside others, in a newborn trafficking ring operating in the region.

The police continue to interrogate the accused and are tracking the extent of the illegal network responsible for selling infants. Authorities have assured strict action against all involved.
