SINGAPORE – A 41-year-old Indonesian man, Salehuddin, has been charged with murdering his wife, Ms Nurdia Rahmah Rery, 38, at a hotel along South Bridge Road.
On Oct 25, Salehuddin was handed a capital charge for allegedly killing Ms Nurdia at the Capri by Fraser China Square hotel on Oct 24. According to charge sheets, the crime took place in Room 703 between 3am and 5am.
Appearing in court via video link, Salehuddin, dressed in a red polo tee, had the charge read to him in Bahasa Indonesia by an interpreter. When asked if he had any statement to make, he inquired whether he could be prosecuted and sentenced in Indonesia instead.
District Judge Tan Jen Tse stated that the case was still in its early stages and that no such application would be considered at this point. The judge ordered Salehuddin to be remanded for psychiatric observation for three weeks.
Through an interpreter, Salehuddin objected, saying, “I object, Your Honour. The punishment is a death sentence.”
Police reported that on the morning of Oct 24, Salehuddin went to the Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre at about 7:40am, where he informed officers that he had killed his wife.
Officers later found Ms Nurdia lying motionless in the hotel room. Paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force pronounced her dead at the scene.
If convicted of murder, Salehuddin faces the death penalty.
This marks the fifth reported murder in Singapore in 2025. In September, a woman died after a violent neighbour dispute in Yishun Central, where a 66-year-old man was charged with murder.
