In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, four men from Assam were arrested near Perumbavoor on Friday with 126 grams of heroin concealed in soap boxes. The arrested individuals — Sakur Ali (35), Sabir Hussain (32), Ramij Raja (45), and Saddam Hussain (38) — are all residents of Nagaon district, Assam.
Acting on a tip-off received by District Police Chief M Hemalatha, law enforcement set up a vehicle inspection on the Aluva–Pothassery Road. At Chembaraki, police intercepted an autorickshaw carrying the suspects, who had hired the vehicle from Aluva.
The suspects raised suspicion during questioning, prompting officers to search their belongings. Inside several soap boxes, police discovered the hidden heroin, totaling 126 grams.
The group was taken to Thadiyattaparamba police station, where a case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During interrogation, the men admitted to procuring the heroin in Assam for Rs30,000 per box and planned to sell it to migrant workers in Pothassery for Rs70,000 per box. All four were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
