SAKON NAKHON, Thailand — Authorities seized approximately 300 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and arrested two suspected members of a drug trafficking network in Mueang district following a coordinated security operation.
The arrests occurred at about 9:10 p.m. on January 16, 2026, in the parking area of the Bypass Market in Dong Mafai subdistrict. Officers recovered six sacks containing an estimated 300 kilograms of meth, along with two vehicles and two mobile phones.
The operation, conducted on January 17, involved the 2nd Army Area Command in coordination with the Narcotics Suppression Division 24, Border Patrol Police Region 2, the Surasakmontri Task Force, and other agencies. Intelligence from the Internal Security Operations Command indicated that a drug trafficking group was transporting narcotics from the border areas of That Phanom district, Nakhon Phanom province, into inland regions.
The two suspects, 34-year-old Rungsak from Bueng Kan province and 48-year-old Kritphat from Nakhon Phanom province, were apprehended at the scene without resistance. Following the arrests, the suspects and seized items were transported to Border Patrol Police Region 2 headquarters and then handed over to Dong Mafai Police Station to face legal proceedings under Thailand’s narcotics laws.
Officials said the methamphetamine is believed to have originated from cross-border trafficking routes in northeastern Thailand. Authorities emphasized that the operation reflects ongoing cooperation among military, police, and security agencies to disrupt drug networks and prevent narcotics from reaching inland communities.
