In a significant breakthrough, the police have arrested Sahil alias Bacha, 22, and two of his family members—Shahnaz, 50, and Heena Pathan, 28—in connection with a series of burglaries. The arrests, made on Wednesday, led to the recovery of stolen gold and silver ornaments worth approximately Rs8 lakh, along with Rs5,000 in cash.
The operation was carried out by a special team formed by Azad Nagar police station in-charge Tilak Karole, with the support of beat officers, the intelligence unit, and technical surveillance, including CCTV footage. The trio, residents of Noori Nagar in the Azad Nagar area, allegedly plotted and carried out several thefts, dividing roles within their group. During the arrest, police also seized two sharp-edged knives believed to have been used in the crimes.
Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in four burglary cases within Azad Nagar’s jurisdiction, including thefts in Musakhedi, Teen Imli Chowk, North Musakhedi, and the most recent one in Prem Nagar, Musakhedi.
Further investigation revealed that Sahil, a habitual offender, had been externed from Indore and neighboring districts under the Madhya Pradesh State Security Act, 1990, effective December 19, 2024, for a period of six months. Sahil, who has a criminal history with 20 registered cases, was reportedly the mastermind behind the thefts, with the other family members also having criminal backgrounds.
The police are continuing their investigation, and legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant sections, including the Arms Act, for possessing weapons used in the commission of the crimes.
