Dehradun police arrested a 25-year-old man from Saharanpur, UP, in the Clement Town area on Tuesday for allegedly possessing 2,400 capsules containing Acetaminophen (Paracetamol), Tramadol HCl, and Dicyclomine HCl. Certain combinations of these drugs, including Acetaminophen with Tramadol and some fixed-dose Dicyclomine combinations, are banned by the central government.
Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh stated that the accused, Ashish Kumar, confessed to bringing the drugs from Uttar Pradesh to sell to students in Dehradun. A case was registered under the NDPS Act, and Kumar was produced in the local court and sent to jail. Investigations are ongoing to identify any accomplices.
In a separate case, 25-year-old Reeti Singh from Rishikesh was arrested for possession of 6.59 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 2 lakh. She was also charged under the NDPS Act and remanded to jail.
The arrests come days after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the anti-narcotics task force to intensify action against drug peddlers, enhance border checks, and promote the ‘1933’ drug-free helpline for prompt reporting.
So far this year, Uttarakhand police have seized 3.5 lakh banned capsules across all 13 districts by June, more than double last year’s total of 1.7 lakh, as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
