A 27-year-old man, Sagar Singh alias Manu, was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly hacking a woman advocate’s social media account and using it to defraud other women with false job promises in the Women’s Commission.
Singh, a resident of Vijay Nagar, Ghaziabad, targeted educated women, particularly advocates, by pretending to be a senior government official. He used hacked accounts and impersonation tactics to win trust and lure victims.
The case came to light when a Shahdara-based woman filed a complaint on June 12, stating she was tricked into paying Rs 23,000 for a fake government job offer. The scammer contacted her via the social media account of a woman lawyer, claiming to be from the Education Department, and requested processing fees for a job at the Women’s Commission.
Police traced the fraudulent messages to an email linked to Singh’s mobile number. Further investigation revealed that Singh also duped another woman advocate of Rs 3.34 lakh, offering her the chairperson’s post at the Women’s Commission.
“Singh created a network of deception by researching real government job openings, profiling officials through open sources, and faking high-level connections,” said an investigating officer.
Authorities found that Singh is a repeat offender, already involved in multiple cases of cheating and cyber fraud in both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The accused was found operating bank accounts in his own name to receive money from victims, further solidifying evidence against him. Police say the investigation is ongoing and are verifying the extent of his fraud.
