Sadar Police Arrest Abhijit Mondal for Odisha CM Impersonation Scam

by Ananya Mehta

In a swift and well-coordinated operation, Sadar Police arrested 25-year-old Abhijit Mondal, a resident of Howrah, West Bengal, for impersonating the Chief Minister of Odisha and attempting to defraud a government official from Sikkim.

The arrest followed a verbal complaint by Tenzing Dorjee, Chairman of SIMFED, Government of Sikkim, who received a suspicious call from an unknown number. The caller falsely identified himself as the Odisha Chief Minister and requested financial assistance for an alleged needy individual.

Sensing a scam, Dorjee promptly informed the Sadar Police and, under their guidance, invited the impersonator to Gangtok under the pretense of offering help. Acting on this tip-off, the Sadar Police team laid a trap and arrested Mondal in Gangtok.

Initial investigations confirm Mondal’s fraudulent intent, and further inquiries are underway to uncover the full scope of his criminal activities. Police praised Dorjee’s vigilance and cooperation, which were pivotal in the successful apprehension.
