In a late-night operation against illegal narcotics, Khajrana police arrested Sadan Lahori (29) and seized 590 banned alprazolam tablets, along with a scooter, during a crackdown in the area.
Khajrana police station in-charge Manoj Sendhav said the accused, a resident of Khajrani Kakad, works as a painter and is educated up to Class 12. Acting on confidential inputs, a police team was deployed to monitor suspicious movement near Talai, in front of Bada Madrassa.
During the operation, police noticed a man standing near a two-wheeler who attempted to flee on spotting the team. He was immediately surrounded and apprehended. A search led to the recovery of 590 alprazolam tablets, a prohibited psychotropic substance, for which the accused failed to produce any valid licence or documents.
Police estimated the value of the seized tablets at over Rs 1,700, while the scooter seized from his possession was worth approximately Rs 60,000, taking the total seizure value to Rs 61,700.
During interrogation, Lahori admitted to being addicted to alprazolam and revealed that he procured the tablets at low prices from his in-laws’ place in Tonk district, Rajasthan, and sold them at higher rates to other addicts in Indore to fund his addiction.
A case has been registered against the accused at Khajrana police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.
