YOLO COUNTY, Calif. — A Sacramento man has been arrested after investigators recovered several stolen beehives in northeastern Yolo County, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies were alerted Tuesday to multiple beehive boxes found in a rural area. Agricultural crime investigators responded and discovered that the live hives had been altered to conceal identifying markings.
While monitoring the site, authorities observed a suspect return to continue modifying the hives. Using resources from the California Rural Crime Prevention Task Force, investigators determined when the hives were stolen and identified the rightful owner from Central California.
The stolen hives, valued in the high tens of thousands of dollars, were recovered and returned to their owner.
Leonid Terzi, 47, of Sacramento, was arrested on multiple felony charges related to theft.
Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information about this theft or related apiary equipment in Yolo County to contact law enforcement.
