A man wanted in connection with the cold-blooded murder of a roadside cloth vendor in Mira Road has been arrested in Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda district of Punjab, police confirmed on Monday.
The accused, Sachin Kumar Sahu, alias Rathod, had been absconding since January 3, when he allegedly shot Mohammad Shams Tabrej Sahabuddin Ansari, also known as Sonu, at point-blank range in the Naya Nagar area.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Madan Ballal, the dispute reportedly stemmed from a quarrel over setting up roadside stalls. The disagreement escalated to a fatal confrontation, with Rathod opening fire on Sonu in broad daylight before fleeing the scene.
The Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police, relying on technical surveillance and human intelligence, tracked Rathod to Punjab and arrested him over the weekend.
The case had caused significant public concern in the Mira Road locality due to the brazen nature of the attack. Further investigation is underway to understand if others were involved or assisted the accused while he was on the run.
