Saake Swaroopa Rani Arrested for Bus Stand Thefts in Tirupati

Police recover 180g gold worth Rs 12 lakh from thief

Tirupati crime police arrested 30-year-old Saake Swaroopa Rani, a serial thief, on Thursday and recovered gold ornaments weighing 180 grams, valued at approximately Rs 12 lakh.

According to CCS Additional SP Nagabhushanam Rao, Swaroopa Rani would frequent the bus stand, posing as a passenger, and travel on buses to steal bags from fellow passengers.

Following complaints about a series of thefts, a special police team led by CCS DSP Syam Sundaram along with CI Chinna Peddaiah, Siva Kumar Reddy, Prakash Kumar, and SI Subhan Naik, was formed to investigate. The team focused on old convicts, which led to the successful apprehension of Swaroopa Rani.

Swaroopa Rani is a resident of Navodaya Colony, Anantapur, and currently resides in Aswaraopet, Khammam district, Telangana. Authorities are investigating whether she is linked to other theft cases in the region.
