A 39-year-old man, S Vadapalli Vijaykumar from Nellore, was arrested by the Entrustment Document Fraud (EDF) Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Chennai for allegedly swindling Rs 71.63 lakh under the guise of securing admission to a private medical college.
According to the police, Vijaykumar, who ran Zion Online Services, came into contact with the victim in 2021 and promised to secure admission for the victim’s daughter at a medical college. The victim transferred the money through multiple transactions as per Vijaykumar’s assurances. However, when Vijaykumar failed to deliver on his promise and did not return the money, the victim filed a police complaint.
An investigation revealed that Vijaykumar had previously cheated several others and had two other fraud cases registered against him in Nellore.
He was arrested on January 7 in Andhra Pradesh and was subsequently sent to judicial remand on January 8.
