A 44-year-old inmate of a government shelter home in RS Puram was arrested on Friday for his alleged involvement in two motorcycle theft cases. Police successfully recovered both stolen vehicles from him.
The accused has been identified as S Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Vellore district. He had been staying at the shelter home for an extended period, reportedly posing as an orphan to avoid suspicion.
According to authorities, Dinesh Kumar was apprehended after complaints were filed by M Gajendran, 48, of Kurichi near Sundarapuram, and K Mohan, 31, of RS Puram, regarding their missing motorcycles on March 18. Two separate cases were registered, and an investigation was launched immediately.
CCTV footage reportedly linked Dinesh Kumar to both thefts. Police traced his movements and arrested him on Friday. During questioning, officials discovered that he had a prior criminal history.
“He stayed at the government shelter home to avoid suspicion. Both stolen motorcycles have now been recovered,” a police officer stated.
Dinesh Kumar was produced in court the same evening and lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison under judicial custody.
