S.D. Sharanappa: 7 Arrested in Rs24.97 Lakh Theft Cases

Police recover gold, 22 bikes in multiple crimes

Police have arrested seven individuals, including four chain-snatchers, two bike lifters and a burglar, in separate cases and recovered stolen property worth Rs24.97 lakh.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, S.D. Sharanappa, Police Commissioner of Kalaburagi, said the arrests were the result of coordinated investigations carried out by special police teams formed to crack a series of thefts and robberies reported across the city.

The teams were constituted under the guidance of Praveen Nayak and Sharanabasappa Subedar. The operations were led by inspectors from Station Bazaar Police Station, Chowk Police Station, R.G. Nagar Police Station, and M.B. Nagar Police Station.

Chain-snatching case

In one of the cases, Basamma Dyage, a housekeeping staff member from Pragati Colony, filed a complaint stating that unidentified men snatched a 10-gram gold chain from her neck while she was walking on the road.

Following the complaint, an M.B. Nagar police team analysed local leads and technical inputs, which led to the arrest of four suspects: Abbu Shaikh, Majid, Shaikh Hussain, and Mohammed Arif.

Police recovered stolen property worth Rs6.11 lakh, including a mangalsutra valued at Rs1.50 lakh, along with three motorcycles and a vanity bag from the accused.

Burglary case

In another case reported from Mahalakshmi Layout, a complaint was lodged by Shailaja at R.G. Nagar Police Station.

Police arrested Suresh, a resident of Maindargi. He allegedly broke open the lock of the complainant’s house and stole 45 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs6.75 lakh while she was away visiting her native place.

Bike theft cases

Police also solved two motorcycle theft cases registered under the limits of Chowk and Station Bazaar police stations.

In the case registered at Chowk Police Station, officers arrested Shaikh Nissar Ahmed and recovered eight stolen motorcycles worth Rs3.90 lakh.

In another case registered at Station Bazaar Police Station, police apprehended Ramachandra Hosamani, a resident of Korur, and recovered 14 stolen motorcycles worth Rs8.20 lakh.

Officials said further investigation is ongoing to determine whether the accused were involved in other theft cases in the region.
