INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA – A 37-year-old man from Inver Grove Heights, Ryan Coleman, was arrested on December 27, 2023, after police uncovered amphetamines and illegal firearms during an investigation into debit card fraud.
Officers were initially called to a local hotel after receiving reports that Coleman had used a fraudulent debit card to rent a room. Hotel staff identified him as the individual who rented the room, but he was not present when officers arrived.
As the investigation continued, officers received a second report of card fraud at the same hotel. Staff informed them that a second room had been rented across the hall, and they suspected the same individual was responsible for both rooms. Upon their return to the hotel, officers observed a man entering one of the rooms. The man, later identified as Ryan Coleman, denied any involvement in the fraud.
When police searched Coleman’s room, they found two firearms and 75 counterfeit pills. Further investigation revealed additional counterfeit pills and a debit card not belonging to Coleman. The pills and a powdered substance tested positive for amphetamines, and authorities confiscated approximately 36.3 grams of the drug.
Coleman now faces felony charges for 2nd Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Gross Misdemeanor for Possession of Firearms or Ammunition by an Ineligible Person. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years in prison and fines between $150,000 and $500,000 for the drug charges. The firearm charge could result in a sentence of up to one year and fines ranging from $900 to $3,000.
Police confirmed that no other relevant evidence was found in the second hotel room.
