HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Two men have been charged with burglary after police say more than $12,000 worth of firearms and gear were stolen from a storage unit in Henderson.
According to an affidavit, the incident began just after midnight on June 28, when a customer contacted an employee at Lighthouse Storage to report the facility’s front gate was stuck open. A field representative reviewed security footage and discovered the gate’s sensor had allegedly been tampered with—possibly taped over—by the driver of a white Toyota Avalon.
Surveillance showed the Avalon entering the facility by tailgating another vehicle through the open gate, then leaving the same way. The field rep claimed he immediately recognized the suspect as Ryan Carnahan, a former renter previously suspected of theft from the same facility.
Despite suspicions, no action was taken until June 30, when a manager contacted a customer about a potential break-in. Upon inspection, several high-value items were reported stolen from the unit, including:
A large 41-gun safe containing:
Two 9mm handguns
A .22 caliber handgun
A 5.56mm pistol with brace
A black storage tote with a rifle plate carrier and molle attachments
A full-face motorcycle helmet
A black duffle bag with a binder containing firearm serial numbers
A sunshade canopy and carrying bag
The total estimated value of the stolen items was $12,368.
Matthew Walls was also arrested in connection with the burglary. Both Carnahan and Walls were booked on charges of burglary and theft.
