ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A longtime Orlando bail bondsman accused of exchanging bail services for sex has been released from jail under strict conditions.
Russell Moncrief, 75, is facing serious charges including three counts of human trafficking and one count of racketeering. Authorities allege he offered to bail out female inmates in exchange for sexual favors — a scheme that investigators say spanned more than a decade.
Though initially held without bond, Moncrief was released late Tuesday night after a judge dissolved his pre-trial detention. He must now remain on house arrest and wear a GPS monitor.
Moncrief, who owns bail bond offices across Orange, Osceola, Brevard, and Pinellas counties, is accused of making these demands regularly, with the practice becoming “common knowledge” among inmates, according to the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation.
The investigation dates back to at least 2011, when a tipster reported Moncrief’s alleged conduct to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
While a court hearing scheduled for Wednesday was canceled, Moncrief is expected to stand trial later this month, though legal delays are likely.
Despite his release, Moncrief continues to face significant legal consequences and public scrutiny for the disturbing allegations.
