GRANDVIEW, Texas — Russell Lee Brown, the former band director at Grandview High School, has been arrested and charged with multiple child sex crimes, including three counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child, sexual contact, authorities confirmed.
Brown, who retired from Grandview Independent School District prior to the allegations coming to light, was taken into custody in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was transported to the Johnson County Jail in Texas.
In a statement, Grandview ISD Superintendent Kirby Basham clarified that the district was not aware of any misconduct at the time of Brown’s retirement. An allegation involving Brown and a minor was reported last fall and was immediately referred to law enforcement.
“Grandview ISD addressed this situation with the utmost seriousness and care,” Basham said. “The safety and wellbeing of all students is the district’s top priority.”
No current district staff have been implicated or placed on leave due to the investigation. Two assistant band directors left for unrelated positions over the summer, the district said.
Authorities have not released further details as the investigation is ongoing. Brown remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings.
