ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Two brothers have been arrested in connection with a robbery at the Roseville Galleria that occurred in mid-January, Roseville police announced Wednesday.
Daniel Ruiz, 21, and David Ruiz, 19, were taken into custody after law enforcement served a search warrant at Daniel Ruiz’s Sacramento County home. Both were booked into the South Placer County Jail.
Authorities said the brothers forcibly removed a chain from a victim’s neck at the mall on January 16, warning the victim “not to try anything” while holding their waistbands.
The older Ruiz brother was identified through surveillance footage and license plate information. Investigators said he allegedly returned to the Galleria on January 26 and committed grand theft, which helped strengthen the case. The vehicle used on both incidents was registered to the 21-year-old, allowing authorities to secure the search warrant.
During the search, investigators also found an unregistered Glock handgun that was improperly secured.
The Ruiz brothers now face charges of robbery and conspiracy, and additional felony charges for child endangerment and unsafe firearm storage have been forwarded to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
Police noted that the January 16 robbery occurred a day after three teenagers were arrested in connection with an unrelated robbery at the Macy’s in the same mall.
