In a major narcotics crackdown, police seized 51kg of ganja from Vazhakulam TMJ Nagar in Perumbavoor on Thursday.
The contraband was recovered following a tip-off, leading to the arrest of Rubel Mulla (25) from Murshidabad, West Bengal. The operation was carried out by the Thadiyittaparambu Police.
Ganja Stored in Rented House
Officers discovered the narcotics stored in bags inside a rented house, with some packets piled openly on the floor. An electronic weighing scale was also seized from the premises.
Police said the house had been rented under the pretext of providing accommodation for migrant workers, but was allegedly being used as a storage point for drug distribution.
In a separate operation, the North Paravur Excise Team arrested two Assam natives during a late-night raid on Wednesday.
The accused were identified as:
Rashidul Islam (20) from Morigaon district
Nazeeruddin (25) from Sonitpur district
Officials seized 11.63 grams of heroin, 20 grams of ganja, a digital weighing scale, plastic containers used for transporting heroin, and cash allegedly earned from drug sales.
According to excise officials, the duo were key members of a trafficking network operating between Assam and Kerala, particularly targeting Aluva and Paravur. Several other suspected members of the network are currently under surveillance.
Meanwhile, in another case, Piravom Police arrested Athani Maliyekkal Benny (57), a native of Thrissur, for allegedly cheating a young man out of ₹12 lakh by promising a job in the United Kingdom.
The fraud reportedly took place in March 2023. Police said Benny had been absconding and was eventually tracked down to his wife’s residence in Wadakkanchery following a scientific investigation.
Authorities suspect the involvement of additional individuals in the scam. Benny is reportedly implicated in 13 cases across Kannur and Thrissur districts.
Investigations in all three cases are ongoing as Kerala authorities intensify their crackdown on drug trafficking and financial fraud.
