In a major breakthrough, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway successfully arrested Sudam Nimai Samanta, a 31-year-old resident of Bandipur, West Bengal, at Bhusawal station on Sunday. Samanta was found carrying stolen gold valued at Rs28 lakh, following his involvement in a theft case registered with the Kurla local police.

Acting on a tip-off provided by the state police, the Bhusawal RPF swiftly formed a special squad under the guidance of the assistant security commissioner. The team conducted a thorough search of Howrah-bound trains and station premises.

During the early morning operation, Constable Shrikrishna Koli spotted a man matching the suspect’s description carrying a black bag near the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) on the Khandwa side of the station. The team promptly apprehended him and brought him to the Bhusawal RPF post.

A detailed search of Samanta’s bag revealed 32 gold mangalsutras and other items concealed among his clothes. The total weight of the seized gold chains, including black gems and powder, was 541 grams. The estimated pure gold content was 498 grams, with a market value of approximately ₹28 lakh.

The accused is now facing charges under Section 408 of the Indian Penal Code related to criminal breach of trust.
