Rourkela police have arrested seven young men in connection with the murder of a youth and the brutal attack on another during a violent group clash at the Chhend VSS market complex on Wednesday night.
The arrested individuals — Ashish Paswan, Sparsh Viswakarma, Vivek Viswakarma, Lucky Singh, Gourav Mohanty, Vivek Pandey, and Suryakant Routray — are all aged between 20 and 22 years and hail from the jurisdictions of Chhend, Uditnagar, Brahmanit Tarang, and Plant Site police stations. Police are still on the lookout for additional suspects, including the alleged prime accused.
According to Panposh SDPO Ambit Mohanty, the seven accused were produced in court on Friday and remanded to judicial custody. The clash reportedly stemmed from a dispute involving a girl between two groups of youths aged 18 to 25 years. The altercation escalated at the Chhend VSS market, resulting in the fatal stabbing of Mukesh Kar of Kalinga Bihar, Chhend Colony. Another youth, Rishi Prasad, sustained critical injuries in the attack.
SDPO Mohanty appealed to the youth community to avoid breaking the law and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in lawlessness.
