LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCJB) — Authorities in Suwannee County have dismantled a major fentanyl trafficking operation, seizing over two million potentially lethal doses of the synthetic opioid.
The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) led the long-term investigation, backed by a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) SAFE Grant, enabling collaboration with federal and regional agencies including the NorthStar Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force, FDLE, and the Department of Homeland Security.
After more than a year of surveillance and coordination, deputies identified two key suspects believed to be central suppliers of fentanyl across northern Florida:
Ron Alexis Wilson, 30, aka “Rooster,” was arrested in Tempe, Arizona.
Johnon Christopher Hughes, 41, aka “Juice,” was apprehended at his home in Jacksonville, Florida.
Deputies seized over 12,500 fentanyl pills and more than six pounds of powdered fentanyl — collectively equivalent to over 2 million lethal doses.
“This operation underscores the deadly impact of fentanyl in our communities,” said Suwannee County Sheriff Sam St. John, praising the collaborative work of multiple agencies. “Thanks to these efforts, countless lives were likely saved.”
Hughes is currently held on $2 million bond, while Wilson remains in custody without bond.
