SAN ANGELO, TX — A 30-year-old man, identified as Roman Medrano, has been arrested on charges of burglary and animal cruelty following a disturbing discovery made during a police investigation over the weekend.

Officers from the San Angelo Police Department responded to a report of a burglary with intent at a residence in the 1900 block of Wilson. While investigating the alleged break-in, police uncovered evidence suggesting that Medrano had killed a three-month-old pit bull puppy.

A warrant for Medrano’s arrest on one count of cruelty to non-livestock animals was issued. He was taken into custody on Tuesday at the same residence without incident. His bond has been set at $25,000.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as more information comes to light.

No further details have been released at this time.
