Rohtas police cracked a fake marriage racket on Wednesday, arresting three people linked to a Rs2.5 lakh fraud targeting a man from Morena district, Madhya Pradesh. The victim, Monu Raj Shivhare, was lured to Sasaram with a marriage proposal to a woman named Kajal Kumari from Tilouthu, Rohtas district.

According to Sasaram SDPO Dilip Kumar, the wedding was clandestinely arranged by a broker and held at Hotel Ganga Inn on Dharamshala Road. A fake priest solemnised the ceremony in a private setting. Shortly after, the ‘bride’ vanished under the pretext of using the restroom, and her accomplices, including an aunt, uncle, and sister, fled with Rs2.5 lakh in cash, jewellery, and wedding gifts.

Monu’s complaint revealed that Pinki Devi of Takiya Mohalla is believed to be the mastermind behind the scam. Pinki reportedly coordinated the fraudulent marriage and absconded with the money. Following the investigation, police arrested Rajmuni Kunwar (the girl’s aunt) from Kargahar, her son Prince Kumar from Bairi Bandh (where Rs1 lakh cash was recovered), and Rajesh Jaiswal, owner of Hotel Ganga Inn in Sherganj.

Monu has been seeking justice at the police station since the incident. Authorities are interrogating the arrested suspects and conducting raids to apprehend other gang members. The ‘bride’ remains at large.

Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released upon its conclusion.
