In a tragic case of suspected honor killing, a woman and her daughter were allegedly strangled by the woman’s husband and younger son in Piyara Kala village, located in Rohtas district, Bihar. The police arrested both accused individuals on Saturday and have sent them to jail.

Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar confirmed that instructions have been given for a speedy trial in the case. The victims, Parwati Devi (43) and her daughter, Pratima Kumari (23), were found near a power grid in the village, located on the Kaimur hills. Initially, the husband, Ram Nath Ram, and the younger son, Chhotu Kumar, claimed that the two women had died due to electrocution while starting a motor pump outside their house. However, the police grew suspicious after observing signs of strangulation on both bodies.

A special investigation team led by SDPO Dehri-on-Sone was formed to look into the case. During questioning, the father and son allegedly confessed to the crime. According to their statement, Pratima Kumari’s marriage had been arranged in a neighboring village in Jharkhand, but she refused and insisted on marrying someone of her own choice. Despite multiple attempts by her father and brother to change her mind, she remained firm on her decision.

In a fit of rage on Friday night, they allegedly strangled Pratima with her dupatta. When Parwati tried to intervene, she was also strangled with her sari. The accused then tried to cover up their crime by moving the bodies to a motor cabin near their house, hoping to make it appear as though the deaths were accidental.

The bodies of the victims were sent for post-mortem at Sasaram Sadar Hospital, and the police have also seized the dupatta used in the crime, along with the cellphones of the victims and the accused.
