Rohtak Police have arrested four men accused of targeting elderly citizens during morning walks and snatching gold ornaments. The accused are Narendra alias Virendra (40), Balkishan (50), Sumit alias Dheela (31), and Deepak (22), all residents of Indira Colony, Rohtak district.

Police said the gang engaged seniors in conversation before snatching their jewelry. The case came to light after the group allegedly stole a gold bangle from an elderly man near Surya Vihar Road on October 25, 2025.

A team from the Sector 17 crime branch arrested the suspects along Dujana-Rohtak Road in Jhajjar, following sustained surveillance, analysis of technical inputs, and tip-offs from reliable sources.

“The accused admitted to drug abuse and involvement in theft, snatching, and robbery. Elderly people were their preferred targets, as they could be easily distracted with conversation,” a police officer said.

During the incident, the victim was on a morning walk around 6 a.m. when one of the accused approached on a scooter, striking up a discussion about old-age pension schemes. Moments later, three others arrived on a bike and snatched the bangle before fleeing.

The accused were produced before a court on Monday. Deepak was sent to judicial custody, while Narendra, Balkishan, and Sumit were remanded to three days of police custody. Police recovered a Kia Seltos car used by the group, registered in the name of a relative of another accomplice.

According to police records, the accused have a history of criminal activities:

Narendra: 16 cases across Hisar and Rohtak (assault, theft, snatching, fraud)

Sumit: 3 cases of theft and snatching in Hisar

Balkishan: 3 cases (robbery, fraud), proclaimed offender

Deepak: 1 case of assault and criminal intimidation in Hansi

Police believe the gang had been planning further criminal activities using the seized vehicle. The case is registered at Sector 09A police station, with investigations ongoing.
